Administration includes activities such as marketing, office management, sales, promotion, forecasting, budgeting, maintenance, testing raw materials (prior to acceptance), raw materials inventory control, production “support”, and clerical functions. The location where the activity occurs is usually not relevant. Raw materials inventory management, for example, is administrative, even if it occurs on the manufacturing plant floor.
